Changes Of Soaking And Impregnation Of Glass Fiber Reinforced Materials

- May 11, 2017-

All glass fiber reinforced materials, soaking and impregnation are influenced by fibre diameter, tex number of silk bundles and dispersion of fibers. Saturation describes the wetting condition of fiberglass. Immersion describes the ability of the resin to penetrate multi-layer reinforcement materials.
For example, the micro-microstructure of fiberglass mat is saturated with very fast, because the fiber is dispersed well, the single filament diameter is small and the fiber surface is high quality. But the resin cannot penetrate the reinforced material that is soaked in the thin mat. In fact, if the resin is in the air, the bubble may become a permanent void in laminated products.
On the other hand, roving made of continuous raw silk mats usually have excellent impregnation, allowing the resin and the air to be carried out quickly through the felt structure. In a roving mat, monofilament may be wetted more slowly in a large filament bundle, but the bubbles are easier to detach from the laminated structure.
In short, glass fiber reinforced materials have so many changes that can affect the final product. There are also many ways to optimize composites to achieve the performance of end-users. The best strategy is to work with material vendors to ensure the expected results.
